Age of Star Wars Comics Coming Soon
By: Robbie Rowe, Lead Comic Correspondent

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... Though here, it wasn’t that long ago
and it was this very galaxy. Marvel has been able to do Star Wars comics since
January 2014, but have been publishing them since January 2015.
That wasn’t the first time Marvel have done Star Wars comics, as their 1st was
back in April 1977, one month before the 1st film came out. There’s a wide range of eras for Star Wars writers to explore, from the Age of Republic, with many Jedi, to the Age of Rebellion, focusing on the conflict between the Empire and the Rebellion.
Announced July 2018, Marvel are publishing a 24 part comic series covering 3
different eras of Star Wars, with Age of Republic beginning next month.
December’s issues are Darth Maul #1 and Qui-Gonn Jinn #1. Mother Panic writer Jody Houser is writing both of those, with Maul questioning his Sith Master, Darth Sidious.
While Qui-Gonn is similarly questioning, but here questioning his loyalty to the
Force and to the Jedi. In January, there’ll be a Special with Count Dooku’s
apprentice Asaji Ventress, Mace Windu, Clone Trooper Captain Rex and the
always infamous Jar Jar Binks. Anyone would think that’d be more than enough,
but Jody also has Obi-Wan Kenobi #1 and Jango Fett #1.
Obi-Wan will focus on him first dealing with his Master Qui-Gonn trusting him to take Anakin, the future Vader, as an apprentice. Jango is the father of Boba Fett and Boba comes along with his Dad on his latest mission. Ultimately, I’m delighted with Marvel exploring so many different characters here, whether in the more recent era of the Sequels, or the Original Trilogy, or even further back. It’s very welcome and I’ll definitely give these a go and recommend you do too.
