Batwoman Joining Arrowverse

Updated: Aug 2, 2018

The Arrowverse has been a big part of the small screen since the debut of Arrow in 2012 and shows to follow like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. With the franchise's mega success it's no surprise that the CW would want to expand their current universe and want to explore new heroes and diabolical villains and that's exactly what they're doing.

Early Tuesday morning it was announced that the Arrowverse would be adding one more show to the CW roster in Batwoman and it would be arriving sometime in 2019. The official description is as followed.

"In the series, Kate Kane, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope."

It was no surprise to most fans of the arrival of our newly founded vigilante since Stephen Amell AKA Oliver Queen announced that we would be introduced to Batwoman in this year's crossover event come December. Speaking of this year's crossover event, it looks like Kate Kane will be in the forefront since we will have a real absence of misfits this year; we are told that the Legends of Tomorrow will not be showing up for the annual event.

One thing that we have to take into consideration is the issue of Batman. We have been told time and time again that we will never see Batman in the Arrowverse due to Ben Affleck portraying Bruce Wayne in the DCEU. Realistically, Batwoman is destined to meet up with the Dark knight eventually. So how will they handle this? Well, I have two theories on it. The first is that Batman does not exist in this universe. Now I know they have references and Easter eggs scattered all throughout the franchise. What can i say? I have always partly believed that Oliver Queen AKA the Green Arrow was this earth’s version of Batman; I mean, his costume was even inspired by the big man himself and he has batman villains like Ra's al ghul and Deathstroke . In my opinion, it's not a big stretch to assume he doesn't exist in this franchise.

My second thought on this topic is that Batman did exist in this universe until he perished by the hands of a great nemesis like Bane, Poison Ivy or even the iconic Joker! Which would lead to the city of Gotham being infested with villainous scum, which forces Kate Kane to rise up and become the defender of Gotham whether she wants to or not.

With all that being said, that's everything we know about the 2019 Batwoman series. Let's just hope it lives up to the hype!!!
