Incredibles 2: Worth the Wait

Updated: Jul 7, 2018

It’s been 14 years since The Incredibles was released in 2004. Can you believe it? 14 years! Four years before the Marvel Cinematic Universe even existed. That’s how long we’ve had to wait for the sequel, but I’ll tell you what; it’s well worth that wait.

Elastigirl is the focus of Incredibles 2. Superheroes are currently illegal and an operation is underway to change the law. Elastigirl is recruited to become the face of the operation and convince world leaders that superheroes are a positive influence on society.

Of course, this leaves the jealous Bob Parr, Mr. Incredible, as a stay-at-home dad to raise their their three kids. Violet has boy problems, Dash is struggling in school, and Jack-Jack is discovering immense powers which include him becoming a demon baby when he doesn’t get cookies. It’s definitely a look at him as a true family man, dealing with issues that real fathers have to handle.

The twist is at the end is predictable but this movie is a ton of fun. There was even a moment in my theater when people broke out into applause, which I must admit is a first for me during an animated film.

Pixar’s animation is superb. If this is the culmination of 14 years of work, then take another 14 years for the next one. Well, okay, don’t, but it really was a job well done by the animators. It looks like they threw the kitchen sink at this one and it all worked.

Incredibles 2 is a fun animated superhero movie that has plenty of laughs, action and family drama to make it great for the whole family. I expect Incredibles 3 to come much sooner than the second did.
