New Ninja Turtles Movie in Development

Paramount has hired a writer to pen a third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie in what will be a likely reboot.

The original trilogy from the 90’s was very successful, but the current rebooted franchise has struggled at the box office. The studio hasn’t confirmed that this film won’t be a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, but given that the title appears to be simply Ninja Turtles, they seem to be attempting yet another iteration of the heroes.

I was a huge fan of the turtles as a kid, but there’s only so many times you can keep going back to well. If they’re smart, they’ll revisit the tone of the original trilogy and stop trying to tinker with the identities of the characters. Recent versions of the characters have strayed too far from their comic book appearances, thought the story has been more in line with the books.

I really hope this reboot pans out because the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a great franchise that deserves a place in modern pop cultures, and I’m afraid one more unsuccessful film will be its last.
