Supergirl Season 3 Preview: Her Best Villain Yet

Supergirl has steadily improved throughout its first two seasons and don’t expect that to change in the third.

We’re going to see the best villain the show has had to date. Odette Annable will show up as Samantha Arias, but unbeknownst to her, she is actually Reign, a genetically-modified Kryptonian who was the baby in the pod at the end of last season.

As Samantha, she will befriend all characters on the show. This will create problems later when can’t agree on how to deal with her.

In an interview with TV Insider, show producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to say about Reign’s impact.

“Everyone will have a relationship with her, and that will drive much of the season in terms of how far they’re willing to go to stop Samantha when she becomes Reign. Some will believe she needs to be saved; others will think she needs to be stopped.”

She’ll be the best villain so far because we see her transformation. Most villains on the show just show up out of nowhere without a story behind them. We will see Samantha become Reign in front of our eyes. They’re putting more character development and depth into this particular villain this season.

As a Kryptonian, Reign has all the powers of Superman and Supergirl. In the comics, she was meant to be a weapon to destroy Earth. How powerful is she? There are even rumors that Supergirl may get an upgraded costume in order to defeat her. And perhaps she’ll need some help from a certain cousin…? Maybe just wishful thinking, but it could happen.

Villains can be a big part of a successful show and I think developing more like this continue to improve the show.
