The Russo Bros. Should Take Over Guardians 3
With James Gunn no longer attached to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel Studios is looking for a new leader to help the project. They definitely need a director and possibly a writer if they intend to move on from Gunn’s finished screenplay.
The most logical choice to take over the project are Joe and Anthony Russo, the brother director duo of Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers 4.
The Russos have plenty of experience in the MCU, with their projects including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Most of those films include large ensemble casts and team ups, which is what they’d be getting with the Guardians.
They’re also the only MCU directors, other than Gunn, to have worked with the Guardians cast. Their familiarity with the characters and talent portraying them would be very useful in a time crunch situation like this.
They’re also undoubtedly clued in as to the current plans for Guardians 3 and the direction of the MCU’s future. They’d provide a steady hand at the wheel to keep the ship moving forward. I’m also not aware of any major scheduling conflicts on the horizon, unlike some others like Taika Waititi.
The Russos had previously hinted that Avengers 4 would be their last MCU film, but recently indicated that they’d be open to continuing to work with Marvel in the future.
The Russos would be the best and quickest fit to take over for Gunn. I’d be surprised if Kevin Feige hasn’t already made the call.
