Why Gamora's Death Shouldn't Be Undone (But Probably Will Be)

Okay, so a lot of heroes died in Avengers: Infinity War. One death that definitely didn’t surprise me, though the circumstances surrounding it did, was Gamora.

I thought Gamora would die at Thanos’ hands and I even thought it might involve the soul stone, but I was blown away by the death scene she got. It was brilliant, emotional, visual and impactful. She absolutely got a proper on-screen sendoff. Thanos was even crying as Gamora realized in horror that he actually loved her, thus sealing her fate. It was the single more humanizing moment for Thanos in the film.

Which is exactly why she should stay dead. I love Zoe Saldana’s portrayal of Gamora, but to bring her back would waste such a beautiful death. The entire scene would be rendered meaningless.

Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is coming in 2020, but that franchise can continue without Gamora. It will provide added emotional motivation for Star-Lord going forward, as well as Nebula if she makes it past the next movie. Nebula could even become a full-time member of the Guardians, taking her sister’s place. So much can spin out of this.

However, Marvel appears to be laying the groundwork to bring her back. At the end of the movie, we see Thanos in what could be Soul World, talking to a young Gamora. And Joe Russo recently confirmed that she is simply trapped inside the soul stone.

That they trapped her and didn’t kill her, and are confirming that, is an indication that she will return in Avengers 4.

Just a shame to see such a beautiful death go to waste.
