Why You Should Still Watch Marvel’s Inhumans (Despite the negative reviews)

We’re all painfully aware that the initial reviews of Marvel’s Inhumans are in and they haven’t been generous. If you’re thinking about skipping the series altogether, I’d advise against it. For now. Here’s why.

First, it’s important to remember that these reviews are based off the first two episodes and only the first two episodes. Many people were down on the first few episodes of Iron Fist but found that the series got better as it went along. There are a lot of different dynamics with the Inhuman Royal Family that can’t be properly played out in just two episodes. And keep something else in mind; these weren’t even two full episodes. We’ve known for months that the episodes on ABC will feature content not appearing in IMAX, meaning that there could still be content correcting some of the flaws being reported. Negative reviews certainly raise red flags, but they don’t mean the show can’t still be fun to fans. Like watching Lockjaw, a giant teleporting dog? Sign me up!

If you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when has Marvel Studios really let you down? Sure, there have been some mediocre products, but has there been anything terrible? Like, Fantastic Four terrible? Marvel doesn’t put out terrible content. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was a bit iffy in its first season but they made the necessary changes to get it on track. Their track record has earned them the benefit of the doubt.

Also, we’ve been hearing about and waiting with anticipation for an Inhumans movie for years. And while this isn’t a film, we’re still getting a look at this group on screen. Adventures on the city of Attilan are sure to be a visual spectacle. And then there’s Lockjaw.

I’m not suggesting that Inhumans is without flaws. Black Bolt is an iconic character that is very difficult to portray on screen, because, well, he doesn’t speak. It’s kind of hard to work with that, but one consistent positive we hear is that Anson Mount plays the role well. Marvel’s decision to make this story a series instead of a film is puzzling. With the MCU set to head in a more cosmic direction after Avengers: Infinity War, this franchise would seem to fit in perfectly. And if you find out they can’t hold their own franchise of solo films, they can still be used as key characters in crossovers, a luxury you don’t have by putting them on TV.

Inhumans is a risky project, and if it is indeed a trainwreck, I’ll be the first to say so. But Marvel has earned my trust over the past nine years with stellar project after stellar project, so until they let me down, I’m with them.
